Citizens in a Connected Age is an Internet technology workshop sponsored by the e-Vermont Community Broadband Project.

ANY Vermonter with basic computer skills may attend!

We will also have a raffle, with a Kindle as the grand prize!

Brief Course Descriptions

  • Train Yourself to Train Others - techniques that will help you train volunteers, staff and community members about the skills and knowledge you learned in this workshop .
  • Buying and Selling Online - the risks and benefits of doing your banking, buying and selling online.
  • Best Practices for e-Government Websites - how town government can improve their current websites or build new ones that meet the needs of their citizens.
  • Web-based Communication Tools for Your Community (with computer lab) - learn about the free online applications and resources that will help you organize and promote community events
  • Advanced Social Media (with computer lab) - strategies for incorporating social media into your business, nonprofit and personal life.
  • Troubleshooting Computers and Software - how to diagnose a problem with computers and software.
  • No Money Marketing - using free online tools and resources to market your business or organization.
  • Google Applications (computer lab) - so many Google Applications, where do you start? This course will get you started. 
  • Digital Storytelling  (with computer lab) - how to get your story online using clever tools and techniques.
  • Securing Your Online Data - backing up data and protecting private information online.

  • $12 registration fee - includes course offerings, refreshments and lunch. We cannot refund fees if you do not attend after registering.
  • Options for online registration: pay by credit card online, or register online and pay at the door. We cannot accept credit cards at the workshop.

The e-Vermont Community Broadband Project
has selected 24 communities by application and offers services of a community director to organize local efforts, free netbook computers for 4-6th grade classes (that can be taken home and used by families), very intense teacher training on using these computers in the classroom, advising on best applications of Internet tools for local small businesses, equipment and training for libraries, help to town officials improving civic engagement with technology, free online town forums, and training coordinated by the State Colleges.
